Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I wrote, "For the new week, the market may need a bit of consolidation.  Both SPX and Nasdaq are showing bullish crossovers in their respective MACDs.  VIX closed below 22, a level which had been a solid support since May.  Wednesday has some economic data that may help to [...]

As discussed in my Market Forecast this weekend, I was looking for more selling pressure to test SPX 1040.  The market was weak in the morning and sank as low as SPX 1042.17.  Techs were especially weak today.  However, the miners drew some buyers back in and stayed strong most of the day:  CLF +4.42%, [...]

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I said: "For the new week, the momentum has completely shifted to the downside.  We can see that the daily MAs in both SPX and Nasdaq are curving down.  On Monday, we may see an attempt to bounce; others may call it a relief rally.  First resistances will be SPX 1130 [...]

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I said: "For the new week, things get a bit tricky.  While earnings are still expected to be strong, the anxiety over possible financial reforms can cast a shadow on the market, especially over the financial sector…  I think we’ll see some follow-through weakness on Monday.  In general, I’d [...]

The market was strong today, helped in a big way by the commodity sectors, as the dollar slid.  Miners took control again.  Coal stocks were especially strong, again:  WLT +3.12%, CLF +2.23%, MEE +7% (!!), ANR +3.54$, PCX +5.16%.  MEE closed above $54 at a new 52-week high.  I think it is going higher and [...]

Market Forecast + Sector Watch: SPX, Nasdaq, UUP, GLD, XLF, XLE, MA, V, ICE, CME, STT, PNC, BLK

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I wrote: "For the new week, we’ll pay attention to the GDP and retail reports on Tuesday.  Nasdaq looks really strong.  Its daily upper BB has opened up.  Normally, I’d say that Nasdaq is setting up for a breakout.  But, with this "undecided" market environment, we’ll have to wait [...]

Market Forecast + Sector Watch: SPX, Nasdaq, GLD, GDX, XLF, XLE

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I said, "For the new week, the market will start the week in a neutral position.  If SPX and Nasdaq can rise above their respective daily MAs, the market can rally higher.  The immediate resistance levels above the daily MAs are SPX 1080 and Nasdaq 2150.  Although VIX closed below [...]

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I wrote: "For the new week, after trying hard, but unsuccessfully, to break away from the recent resistance levels (SPX 1000; Nasdaq 2000), the market technicals are showing slight weakness.  The MACD on both SPX and Nasdaq have turned lower.  Nasdaq closed below its 10-day MA.  SPX closed right at [...]

Energy Sectors Push S&P 500 To A New 6-Month High!

On Tuesday, in my evening article, I said, "If VIX breaks down below 28, I think we’ll see SPX above 950.  [...]  USO (oil) still seems strong, as the dollar looks weak again.  Energy sectors could help the market push higher." Today, VIX broke down all the way to below 27.  SPX jumped to a [...]
