Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I wrote,
"For the new week, the technicals are still carrying a bias to the downside. The M&A activities and the speculations for them are offsetting the inconsistency in the latest economic reports. The M&A activities are bringing buyers into some sectors. However, the industrials have been weak on further […]

This morning, after more lousy housing and durable goods data, the market sank lower. We took the opportunity to lock in our profits on the downside plays:

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I forecasted,
"For the new week, the latest development in the charts are certainly not bullish. However, it may not necessarily dictate a breakdown. If SPX 1080 does not hold, the next support is 1060, set back in mid-July. The market could still be range-bound, and, is very mixed."
As it turned […]

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I said:
"For the new week, the market should be looking for a bounce after the quick fall for the past 2 weeks. The above mentioned levels should be the first resistances. We could see some volatile trading to start the week. If the market cannot break SPX 1040, we […]

On Tuesday, in my evening article, I said,
"There is some resistance at 36 for VIX. We may see shorts start to cover some positions before Friday’s unemployment report. Profit-taking happens on the downside, too! There’s a lot of focus on the SPX 1040. If that does not hold, the next soft support is SPX 1025, […]

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I said:
"For the new week, the market looks to be on its way to break higher. The daily upper BBs have opened up; the 10-day MAs are crossing above the 20-day MAs. In addition, the 30-day MAs are trying to turn up. These are all bullish signals. This weekend, China announced […]

Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I wrote:
"For the new week, things may be a bit tricky. First of all, it’s options expiration week, so some "maneuvers" are to be expected. The market is definitely trying to draw a bottom. But, after charging higher 2 days in a row, we may see some indecisiveness on […]

Yesterday, in my article, I mentioned that we should see some profit-taking and more volatility. This morning, the latest economic data were mostly positive with solid industrial production and benign inflation numbers. Housing starts, however, dropped. The market was a little soft at the open, but, pushed higher in mid-day; only to lose most of […]
Last weekend, in my Market Forecast, I said:
"For the new week, with both SPX and DJI ending below major support levels (SPX 1080 and DJI 10,000), the market can see additional selling pressure. Energy sectors still look weak, with oil spill in the Gulf looking to extend into the fall, although the containment cap is […]

The market gapped lower this morning and touched a new 6-month low. The Dow briefly slumped below 9,800, while SPX almost touched 1040. But, the market staged an impressive rally to close just about flat. GS led the financials with a +4.29% gain, closing above the $140 level.
The beaten-down commodity sectors led the bounce. Oil […]
