Miners Keep The Market Up! SPX, Nasdaq, WLT, CNX, MEE, ACI, CF, POT, MOS, AGU, TRA, MDVN

The market started out strong today.  Although it gave back some gains in the afternoon, it managed to close in the green.  Gold rallied today to above $1130/ounce.  Miners led the market.  Besides the gold miners, coal stocks were also very strong.  WLT made a new 52-week high, closing at $84.53 and traded above $85/share.  [...]

Market Makes Gains On Merger Deals: AIG, MIL, OSIP, INCY, MDVN, BIIB, ONXX, BMRN, HGSI, NFLX, BIDU, ISRG, PCLN, GLD, GOLD, AMZN

The market was very strong today, inspired by a few merger/acquisition deals.  This weekend, news reported that AIG was making a deal to sell its Asia-based life insurer AIA Group.  AIG was up +4.08% today.  This afternoon, it was confirmed that the British insurer Prudential PLC will acquire AIG’s Asian unit for $35 billion.  In [...]
