The market opened higher today on favorable durable goods data. But, soon dropped into the red. However, after lunch, the commodities-related sectors seemed to gain more and more momentum. I, then, commented on the member board:

The stock market was up today, led by metals and mining. Energy stocks did well also, as crude closed above $124/barrel. (What did I say about trying to “rationalize” the market yesterday?) Gold seemed to be on its way back up, as GLD added +1.65%. Steel stocks were hot, again! […]
The market held its ground today, even though Bernanke was talking about the “R”-word. Solar stocks picked up the pace today as did metals. BIDU continued with its run and traded as high as $292 today! Oil jumped and oil services had another good day.

After a slow start, the market finally showed signs of life after lunch. The market re-tested the recent lows last week, but, hasn’t really made a convincing move up to confirm the double-bottom yet. Today, it made a good effort to stay alive.
