Another Roller-coastering Day! SPX, Nasdaq, DVN, ECA, UPL, HK, RIG, DO

The market had another “roller-coastering” day! It opened up; then, it went lower; and, finally ended higher. Well, barely! Commodities and related sectors were mostly green. Techs were mixed. The financials eked out some gains in the last hour. The energy sector was among the strongest. DVN added +3.38%; ECA was up +3.13%; UPL gained +3.72%; HK jumped +4.82%. Oil services also did well. RIG garnered +1.65% and DO captured +2.56%.

The Dow closed up +26.62 points; SPX added +4.67 points; Nasdaq slid 3.62 points:

VIX closed at 20.49, below 21. INX2 (Internet), SOXX (semiconductors), BTK (biotechs), and SWH (software) all closed in the red. UNG (natural gas) jumped +5.28% while USO (oil) added just +0.86%. OIH (oil services) was up +1.97%. XLE (energy) gained +2.04%. Both GLD (gold) and SLV (silver) closed in the green. FXI (Chinese ADRs) advanced +2.44%.
